Day to day itinerary:

Vientiane Arrival
The group will arrive at different times and we’ll have a drink this evening, go over the trip details, and fit gear to everyone that needs it.

Meals: Drinks
Hotel: Khamvongsa Hotel

Day 1 Vientiane – Xaynamkhan 220 km, mixed roads
Day one of the ride and we depart after an early breakfast.  We ride nrth on hwy 13 then zigzag around to Hinheoup.  We track down to the Mekong River.  We’ll be primarily on secondary roads, some paved sections and dirt roads in descent shape.  Lunch is at a local restaurant and we’ll arrive late afternoon in Xayanamkhan.

Meals:
B, L, D - Full case of Beer Lao is included tonight (12 600ml bottles)
Hotel:
Local Guesthouse

Day 2 Western Laos Loop 200 – 225 km

Breakfast and we are riding to the Mekong and then up a seldom used river track.  We’ll pass some very remote areas and small villages along the way.  We have a few options on the ride and we’ll most likely loop along the southwestern corner of Laos and up to a late lunch in Pak Lay.  We’ll take in one more smaller road ride to the north of town and return for dinner and drinks.

Meals:
B, L, D
Hotel:
Doung Chia Phet Guesthouse

Day 3 Pak Lay – Xayaboury 230 km – remote riding

Early breakfast and we are on dirt roads up the western range.  We ascend and will take on a little more fuel and enter the Nam Pouy Protected Area.  This is a more aggressive ride at times and there will be no car traffic on this portion, maybe a few piles of elephant poo.  We ride and emerge in the town of Nam Pouy for a meal and then ride north to Xayaboury.  Time depending, we’ll get a little more time in on the bikes around Xayaboury.
Meals:
B, L, D
Hotel:
Sayanah Hotel Xayaboury

Day 4  Xayaboury to Luang Prabang
Out of Xayaboury and we’ll cross the Mekong then a few km later, take a small dirt road up to Luang Prabang (90km).  We should have time to stop at Kwang Xi Waterfalls along the way. Arrival time in Luang Prabang around 14:00 allowing you time to wander and see the city.  This is an early departure at 07:45 and will be an adventure ride.  Getting into Luang PRabang for a look self-guided has been a favorite of my clients for a long time.  If you wish to have a full ride day - this is possible as well!  On the map insert below, look for the run north then east out of Xayaboury.  The northern leg is 130 km and second leg west is 145 km - this takes all day and there are multiple water crossings.  This is a longer ride day and an additional $20 is needed on top of the rate.  More fuel, ferry crossings of different price are the increase.

Meals:
B, L, D
Hotel:
Villa Phathana or similar

Day 5  Luang Prabang  to Vang Vieng
This is the premier paved run in Laos and we’ll hit it early.  230 km of twisted paved road later we arrive in Vang Vieng and if our arrival time is before 14:00, you have the option to go tubing down the river and enjoy a few beers as you go along.  The other option is for a small loop around the west side of town on dirt roads along the karst ridgelines.   Dinner tonight in Vang Vieng among the numerous bikini backpackers.  We can opt to stay away from Vang Vieng if you wish, there are options.

Meals: B, L

Accommodation: Villa Vang Vieng

Day 6 Vang Vieng - Vientiane   210 km

Breakfast – most likely late, and we ride south on the main road.   We are on mostly paved road and will pass the Ngam Ngum Reservoir for lunch.  Riding south again, we’ll divert off the main road up to the top of the Phou Khao Khouay National Protected Area for one last run at some rocks.  Our ride into town will be via dirt roads depending on time and the group’s energy level.
